The City of Eureka Springs could see a $200,000 per year funding stream expire, if a lawsuit filed last week goes against city leaders.
The City Council had called an emergency meeting to install new meters to replace the old, worn out boxes they had been using.
However, the suit claims the city was in the wrong by not allowing a city-wide special election or by opening up the competitive bidding process.
The initial filing listed each council member as a target of the suit. That could be amended to allow the petitioners to sue the city itself.
The cost of the new meters and their installation was approximately $40,000 – the same amount each council member is being sued for.
